The Hollywood Hotel had only just opened when this photo was taken. The photographer was standing on an unpaved Highland Ave but being 1902, I doubt that he had to worry about traffic. Except, perhaps, a runaway horse and carriage. Maybe that one parked at the curb on the right. The hotel eventually took up the entire block but from this photo, we can see that it was originally quite a small place with only 16 guest rooms.
