What a crazy, loopy, wondrous day it must have been when this photo was taken. News that Japan had surrendered, putting a celebratory end to the second world war. Angelenos took to the streets and it looks like a ton of them ended up at the corner of Broadway and 7th in downtown L.A. The noise must have been deafening! I imagine that those two cars in the foreground were stuck there for quite some time, and the streetcars in the background weren’t going any place either. And I bet nobody bothered going to see Peggy Ann Garner in “Junior Miss” in a double feature with Jinx Falkenburg in “The Gay Senorita” at the Loew’s State Theatre.
