In this circa 1950s photo taken from an enviably empty Hollywood Freeway, we can see how the Los Angeles City Hall dominated the skyline of downtown LA. Its domination wasn’t an accident; until 1964 it was, by law, the tallest building in the city, so it’s little wonder that it became an iconic symbol of the city.
