There are tons of photos of the exterior of the Hollywood Hotel on the corner of Hollywood Blvd and Highland Ave, but surprisingly few interiors. So the discovery of this one of the hotel’s dining room came as a nice surprise. It looks like it was a postcard of a hand-tinted image, but gives us an idea of what it was like. Those hanging potted plants and dropping vines are a nice homey touch – and they would have been real and not the plastic ones that came along later. I also like those four-bulb light fixtures, and the decorative flourishes at the top of the columns.
Finding something “of” the hotel is tough enough, but to find an item “from” is ine of those rare days. And so….just obtained a 1937 cancelled postcard using a real photo but printed in black on silver back. Rather than having a publisher, it says Private Mailing Card like the early days. The sender left a message and it went on to a woman in Berkeley. She has come back from an overnight in Santa Barbara and has returned to (the hotel?) Hollywood. Still have to do some deciphering and track that reciever. Oh yes, there what we now call advertising on the front promoting the H.H.. Lucky Bucky Find$.
Hi Martin, just my way of saying a great $1 buy…the H.H. was for the previous sentence (card promoted the Hollywood Hotel). The card was actually found by a hand-rifle of poorly organized sets in a small store near me. Just the way we did it before the electro-markets came in play. Still the best way to get what everyone has overlooked and has been waiting to be re-discovered. The perfect specimens are great, but I also look for the ones with messages that might reveal some information about the subject or the people who were there.
So elegant and craveable from our sick preset time
INDEED!

What is/was the HH Lucky Bucky Find$? A google search turned up nothing.

Oh! I see now! That makes sense! Hand rifling does turn up some overlooked bargains!
