This westward view of Hollywood Blvd was taken from Cahuenga Blvd in 1966. We’re looking at the north side of the street where the Warner Hollywood Theatre had stood since 1928. Next to it is the Warner-owned radio station, KFWB. A couple of doors along is Coffee Dan’s which was a popular chain of 24-hour coffee shops.
Here is Coffee Dan’s menu:
This is roughly the same view in October 2019. It’s a lot greener now, isn’t it?
I have a Coffee Dan’s menu, bought from a “garage” sale at the Jane’s sister’s house after the last of the sisters had died, their friend having ownership of the house for a short time. When I lived in Hollywood it was easy to tell how good a movie was by the time it took to get from Westwood, where a lot of movies seemed to premier in the 80s, to Hollywood, where I saw most movies. If they didn’t make it across town it was pretty clear it was a bad movie.
Note the 76 Union billboard a ways down on the north (right) side. There’s that orange ball logo image that rapidly turned into a sea of foam toppers on car antennas. They were everywhere in those days, like backwindow blue bobblehead Dodgers. Don’t get caught without a 9volt transistor radio.
