I took one look at this photo and thought “I’ll never complain about the parking at Disneyland again.” This shot was taken on Disneyland’s opening day, 17 July 1955. These days, they have pictures of characters to help you remember which section you parked in. But back then, it looks like you were on your own. Imagine being poor family parked in the last space in the back row. Yikes.

Wow!!! That is amazing. My parents brought us out there in the mid 70’s. I think it was their way of finally getting to Disneyland. I’m so glad I was able to see and experience all the vintage rides that they have changed or are no longer there.
My first experience of Disneyland was the mid 70s too. Disneyland is ever changing so it pays to do the ride while we can for tomorrow they may be gone!
Ha! Look at the way that big Cadillac has been shoved into the front of the row of cars, making space were there was none.
Yes, I noticed that! I guess they had selfish entitled drivers of expensive cars even back then!
After months of eager anticipation, we went to Disneyland after it opened in 1955. In a savvy marketing ploy, Disney had produced his weekly Disneyland TV show starting in 1954, in part to promote the opening of Disneyland. We could hardly contain our enthusiasm. We parked in this parking lot which, like the rest of Disneyland, was surrounded by orange groves. Somehow we found our car at the end of the day. Disney’s California Adventure is now located at the site of this parking lot.
