Back in 1925, when the San Fernando Valley was still largely pastoral, one of the most well-known farms was the one that provided L.A. with a lot of its milk: Ahohr. (Named after the owner’s wife, Rhoda, but spelled backwards.) Established in 1916, the farm’s Guernsey milk cows grazed both sides of Ventura Blvd at around White Oak Blvd in Encino until after WWII, when the post-war spread of suburbia put the squeeze on all that land.
This is a 2022 satellite image of the same area – and not a cow in sight.
F. Scott Fitzgerald kicked the milk bucket near here about 15 years hence while still working on The Last Tycoon. Apparently had been in Hollywood the night before for a film. And of course, another of the famous names to link to Garden of Allah.
Actually no. He died in Sheilah Graham’s apartment a couple of blocks east of the Garden of Allah.
Hi there, I am curious to know more about the property of 3940 Fairway Drive, Studio City, Ca. It’s an interesting piece of residential History. This home still has Motifs and coat of arms with family motto. With this said, if you could provide any information on who built it and such, it would surely be appreciated.
Hi Rose, I don’t have any info on 3940 Fairway Dr, but you never know – someone reading this might!
