The Old County Courthouse at the corner of Temple Street and Broadway, downtown Los Angeles, 1900Yes, perhaps Los Angeles had outgrown it, and yes, perhaps it hadn’t been maintained well, or perhaps it was damaged by the Long Beach earthquake of 1933, but still, it’s a shame this magnificent building is no longer with us. It’s the Old County Courthouse at the corner of Temple Street and Broadway in downtown L.A., circa 1900. It really must have been a sight to see at the time.

Try to build that now, it would cost a fortune. $$$$

This grand Richardsonian Romanesque building must have been a sight to see. After it was torn down, parts of its sandstone walls were used to construct retaining walls in City Terrace park in East LA and Ladera Park in South LA.

Is this the one that had a staircase to the office that issued marriage certificates, known as the Stairway to Paradise? My memory may be playing tricks on me, but I have a hazy memory of that. I’m confident that someone reading this will have a much better recollection.

I might really be “a site to see”, if you were standing in the shoes of the accused. Hard jail time for the wicked merrily dispensed! DNA??
