I’m not sure what was happening on Pasadena’s Colorado Blvd (then called Colorado St) when this circa 1890 photo was taken, but from all those flags hung from the horse-drawn carriages, it looks like a parade. July 4th, maybe? And that small house in the mid-background, I’m guessing that’s some sort of float? The road isn’t even paved so all I can think is what a slog it would be if it rained the night before.
Alistair T says: “It’s Colorado and Raymond looking east. The church tower on the hill I think was the First Methodist church which was located at Colorado and Marengo.”
I don’t know where along Colorado Blvd the vintage photo was taken, but this is what it looks like these days. This image was taken February 2021.
Guys in front wagon are in official uniforms like railway, postal, commission. This might be election day dragging the official booth out. I doubt it’s the town outhouse for dumping the effigy of George the Third. (Then again, they could be the dog catchers and this might be the new puppy pound…Mayor Goldie is gonna clean up this town. Lou wants him to start with a broom.)
Might that be the Santa Fe rail crossing just behind the mobile shack?
