Opening in 1923, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum was also the home of the Summer Games of the 10th Olympiad, which took place between July 30 and August 14, 1932. This soaring bird’s-eye view was taken on August 7, when the Coliseum was at full capacity for the last day of track and field.
The Coliseum is still there, but these days all that empty land is now filled in with various stadiums and museums. This image is from January 2020.
My dad competed for those Olympics (shooting) but didn’t make it. Got to carry a flag at the point of honor guard though.
I used to take the F car on Vermont, get off at Santa Barbara (MLK) and walk to the pools. Also watched Pancho Gonzales practice tennis nearby.
I still keep a new white Pancho signature tennis ball.
