A film crew shoots a movie at Sardi’s Restaurant, 6315 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, 1936I wish I knew what film they were shooting at Sardi’s Restaurant, 6315 Hollywood Blvd that day in 1936. Back then, it was fairly unusual to shoot on location. Studios preferred soundstages, where they could control light and sound and sets. So whatever the reason, it must have been better/quicker/cheaper to shoot at Sardi’s. It does, however, show us the battery of lights needed and the crowds that location shooting attracts.

Aaaaand now it’s a strip club. This image is from August 2022.

The film was Hollywood Boulevard with Robert Cummings.

It’s like what happened in the film “A Wonderful Life.” The character George Bailey (James Stewart) sees what could have happened in his lovely town if he had disappeared off the planet.

Old man Potter won’t be happy. They put Potter Avenue way out in North Hollywood and he can’t catch a red car going that way anymore. He’ll have to buy gazzo for his limo.

It looks like the studio brought two big 10Ks and two smaller 2K arc lights to light the exterior of the restaurant. That’s a lot of fire power. How filming has changed with the new digital cameras and efficient, cooler LED lights.
