The majority of the photos I’ve come across of the Cocoanut Grove nightclub at the Ambassador Hotel feature crowds of people, especially during its peak years, the 1920s and ‘30s. So it’s nice to see what the place actually looked like without swanky partygoers getting in the way. I do like all that detailing on the walls above those Arabianesque arches, and those black light fixtures that would have been perfect for Rick’s Café Americain in “Casablanca.” When someone finally hands me the keys to that time machine, a night at the Cocoanut Grove is definitely on my itinerary. Care you join me?

So many places I’d visit if I had a time machine. I’d also buy up a load of real estate!
Martin — this picture is perfect! Yes, those light fixtures would have been great in “Casablanca!” So…..when you DO finally get those mythical keys to that mythical time machine, I’d love to join you!
I’ll text you when I’m revving the engine!
I would love to join you Martin.
John and I are ready to go, and no doubt most of your followers. “You’re going to need a bigger (time machine).”
My bags are packed!!!!
I am one of the lucky few who actually went there years ago with my girlfriend who is now my wife. We saw Don Ho and had one of those pictures taken at our table by the house photographer. We still have the photo. Looking at it now is like taking that Time Machine to join the two young lovers out for a night on the town.
I would love to tag along on that wonderful Time Machine, too!
My dad was an amazing dancer . Met my mom there and they were married soon after.
Obviously she knew she’d found an excellent dance partner!
