Beverly Hills City Hall with matching fountains and palm trees, Los Angeles, circa the year it opened, 1932At first glance, it would be easy to think you’re looking at the forecourt of some French chateau and Italian palazzo. But nope. This is the forecourt of the Beverly Hills City Hall at 455 North Rexford Drive, Beverly Hills. With its matching fountains and young palm trees, the photo was taken around 1932, the year the city hall opened. There are a lot of tacky pockets of Los Angeles, but this isn’t one of them.

    Hello again, Martin……..
Here I am again…. Born in Beverly Hills in 1928, I grew up in the 700 block of Rexford Drive. Became friends with policemen on car patrol on Elevado Drive (by my Hawthorne grammar school and Rexford Drive). Still remember their names: Orphie Wiard and Gene Muluno. They always stopped to talk when on their routes. I imagine they can trace them back to the 1940s. Very happy memories of a time when life seemed safer than these days. If you have any questions about BH in those days….feel free to ask while I am still here and have all my marbles!

Hi Joan, Glad you still have all your marbles. My mom was born in 1929 in West Hollywood on Genesee ave. She went to Immaculate Heart High School. We lost her a couple of years ago. Maybe you guys crossed paths. She was in the class of 47.
