A couple of days ago, I posted a night shot of the CBS Columbia Square radio studios in 1939. In this photo, we can see the CBS sign from a different angle, a little farther west along Sunset Blvd. The photographer was standing under the marquee of the Earl Carroll Theatre on the south side of Sunset so that we can also see the Hollywood Palladium nightclub at 6215 Sunset. When this photo was taken, Jimmy Dorsey and his orchestra were playing. From the license plate on the back of the car in the foreground, we can date this photo to 1942.
This is how that view looked in June 2022. The Palladium and the CBS building are both around.
Why is it that the sidewalks are so narrow in the newer photos vs the nice wide sidewalks back in the day?
This view is the photographer standing right under the glorious neon sign of the Earl Carrol Theatre.
I found this 1927 short called unusual Hollywood. A travelogue of Hollywood architecture. It covers a lot from Martin’s other posts. It is very interesting. I will put link up for YouTube video.
