I wouldn’t say no to living in a Los Angeles that still has Currie’s Ice Cream parlors dotting the landscape. From what I hear, their ice cream was very good. Especially their famous 10-cent “Mile High Cones” which they advertised by placing a huge sign on top of their stores. This one (the photo was taken in 1942) looks like it’s taller than the building! This particular one stood at 12101 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, which places it on the northwest corner of Ventura Blvd and Laurel Canyon Blvd.
Currie’s is long gone, and in its place is a less interesting FedEx Print-and-Ship building. This image is from August 2022.
On the right, next to the milk can, we see an image of the little Arden Farms delivery boy…no, they didn’t really hire children for route drivers. He would be found on various company advertising like milk bottles and cartons, sort of like Santa Fe’s own Chico “The Little Chief”.
ICK!!! to the current photo.
Agreed!

Curries on the north east corner of Sunset and Highland—across from Hollywood High.
This where Lana Turner was discovered one afternoon.
Close, but not quite. Lana was discovered by Billy Wilkerson from The Hollywood Reporter at the Top Hat Café, which was on the southeast corner of N. McCadden Place and Sunset Blvd, near both Hollywood High and the Reporter’s offices.
The last time you posted a Currie’s I went looking for pictures of the one in Culver Center in Culver City when I was a kid. Sadly, I still can’t find any.
