What a remarkable building this is! I wouldn’t have even picked this as a church, but apparently it was the Unitarian Universalist Church located on the southeast corner of Chestnut and Raymond Streets in Pasadena. The photo was taken in 1890, and we can see the streets aren’t even paved yet – note the ruts in the dirt caused by the wheels from horse-drawn carriages. The detailing on the exterior walls is striking, but especially that domed tower!

What a shame we lost such a unique building to (yet another) parking lot. This is how that corner looked in April 2017.
And look down the street, another remarkable building. Would love to have seen Pasadena then.

Love the multicolored marble pillars — spectacular! Also, the frescoes (?) above the altar and above the arches on the colonnade are impressive, as well.
On second closer look, based on the clothing of the people in the pews, it looks like this church was torn down a lot more recently than I thought.
Maybe it wasn’t earthquake safe?
The interior view you have is of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, located diagonally across the intersection from the 1890 Universalist Church. The Universalist church came down in the 1950s, but St. Andrew’s still thrives.
