I’m no sports fan, but even I know that the LA Dodgers won the first game of the 2024 World Series at Dodger Stadium on Friday. Here we have an aerial photo of that stadium under construction. The project broke ground on September 17, 1959, and opened on April 10, 1962, so I’d say this photo was taken some time in 1960s. They sure knew what they were doing making space for all those parking lots.
Here is a concept image on a postcard for Dodgers Stadium from 1959.
This satellite image of Dodger Stadium is from December 2023.
I am a fan! Go Dodgers!
I’ve always loved the way that the stadium is built into the hillside. The highest point of the place is the shortest climb from the parking lot.
That’s why it’s called a ravine!
I like that they’ve finally landscaped the parking lot and the outside of the stadium. It used to be (to my child’s eyes) an endless sea of asphalt.
I ran a 5K that was 90% in the parking lot (boooring), but we entered the stadium for the end of the race. They had attendants around to keep people off the grass, but just after I finished, I ask one of the friendlier looking ones if I could just touch it with my hand. She smiled and said o.k. It was surprisingly (to me) coarse grass.
