In 1936, the 4 Star Theater at 5112 Wilshire Blvd, played the British movie “Things To Come” which is a sci-fi movie that predicted a 2nd world war that would last until the end of the 1960s by which time people would forget why they were fighting. Ironically, the peace process begins in Iraq. From these photos, it looks like it was a popular movie and I bet the Wilshire Nut Shop next door was doing a brisk trade.
The 4 Star Theater – or at least the building lasted until 2015. This shot is from 2014:
“Gone With The Wind” was screened for the press at the Four Star on December 12, 1939 three days before the huge Atlanta premiere.
