F. Scott Fitzgerald (author of ‘The Great Gatsby’) moved into the Garden of Allah in July of 1937. Down on his luck and deeply in debt, MGM offered him a lucrative contract to write for the movies. His first important assignment there was “Three Comrades” which was ultimately rewritten by Joe Mankiewicz. Fitzgerald stayed at the Garden for about a year and then moved to a cottage in Malibu. While at MGM he worked on “Madame Curie” starring Green Garson, and “Gone With The Wind” but eventually only received one screen credit.
