Ava Gardner lived at the Garden of Allah for a while when she was married to Artie Shaw. (October 1945 to October 1946) She left Shaw because he was too egotistical and as a teacher was too unsympathetic. She wanted to educate herself so she went out and bought the current best seller “Forever Amber” by Kathleen Windsor. Artie threw the book across the room, calling it trash. Ironically his next wife was–guess who?!–Kathleen Windsor!
