Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett arrived in Hollywood from New York in 1932, took up residence at the Garden of Allah, and signed a contract with MGM in 1933 which lasted until 1939. During that time they wrote the first three “Thin Man” movies. In the 50s, they returned to writing screenplays and wrote “Father of the Bride” (1950), “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” (1954), “Easter Parade” (1948), “Diary of Anne Frank”(1959). While at the Garden of Allah, they were very good friends with fellow residents F. Scott Fitzgerald, Dorothy Parker and Robert Benchley.
