Alexander Woollcott was an American critic and commentator for “The New Yorker” magazine and a member of the Algonquin Round Table. He was also the inspiration for Sheridan Whiteside character in the play “The Man Who Came to Dinner” written by fellow Garden of Allah resident George S. Kaufman. Woollcott liked to spend his winters in L.A. at the Garden of Allah and played intricate word games with Kaufman as well as Harpo Marx and fellow writer and Algonquinite Marc Connolly.
