Actor Francis X. Bushman didn’t ever live at the Garden of Allah, but he’s the only person (along with this wife) who attended both the opening night party in January 1927 and closing night party in October 1959-. Partygoers were asked to come dressed as the hotel’s previous guests and over 1000 people did. As a tribute to Alla Nazimova, her 1923 film “Salome” was screened. Bushman had been a huge star during silent movies but failed to make the transition to sound. His best-known role was a Massala in the 1925 “Ben-Hur” opposite Ramon Novarro.
