Mark C Bloom 24-hour gas station and tire store, 6210 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, April 1942This very film-noir-esque night shot of the Mark C Bloom gas station at the corner of Sunset Blvd and El Centro Ave was taken in April 1942. It looks like he was a one-stop shop: gas, motor oil, car wash (69 cents), tires, and parking. It’s pretty impressive that he was open 24 hours a day back then, although this was during the early days after Pearl Harbor, so I’m surprised he was allowed to keep the lights on. I guess this was before or after the authorities introduced black-outs and dim-outs.

Amazingly, that corner is still home to a tire store (May 2019):

    Coleen Gray was a hwd babe in the 50s.
    If you Google her name, there’s a photo of her in front of a Mark Bloom auto parts store.
    Interesting.

    To Jack C..that photo you mentioned of Actress Coleen Gray is how I ende up on this site..She was quite an Actress in the 40’s n 50’s working alongside such greats as Tyrone Power and John Wayne. You should catch a couple of her films

    My Father was the man behind the scene was the General mgr at the sunset store Him and his crew was the group that the company was based upon meaning store operations later Jim Metropouos became the man in charge of store operations associate vice president of the world’s largest tire company … His bussines ethics were what made the success Bloome had become right up to when Goodyear purchased the company during the meeting convention in Anaheim ca they introduced themselves 500 store mgrs Short and sweet they Said we are Goodyeartireandrubbercompany we couldn’tbeat you so we bought you we wanted to learn how to sel l tires… The End !!!       Jim do you know anything about the Paul Bunyan giants that stood at many of the Mark C. Bloome locations during the mid to late 60s?
