I love this circa 1935 view of a wet Hollywood Boulevard decorated for the holidays because (a) it reminds me that we used to have wet sidewalks, and (b) because it highlights the unusual hexagonal tiling of the sidewalk itself.

Clearly, something was going on along Hollywood Boulevard this night in (circa) 1932. The searchlights were out in force—at least ten of them!

I wish I knew more about this photo than I do. This is Beverly Drive, in Beverly Hills, in 1929 on a night when I’m guessing something big was going on—at least big enough to warrant four searchlights.
