This shot is from 1958. We’re on Hollywood Boulevard looking west from the Hollywood and Vine corner. The Admiral Theater we can see on the right opened in 1937, then later became the Vine Theater. I love the Arthur Murray sign next door to it. You don’t see them much anymore – there’s still one on Beverly Dr, Beverly Hills – so seeing it here seems so “of the era.” This is a couple of years before the city of Hollywood initiated it’s Hollywood Walk of Fame with the stars on the sidewalk, sealing the city of Hollywood’s fate as a tourist destination more than a local residential area which it had been for the previous 100 years.
