His house was decorated by William Haines, the one-time top MGM star who Louis B. Mayer fired when Haines refused to play Hollywood’s lavender marriage game. He went on to become one of L.A.’s top interior decorators.

What a bright and cheery room. I love orange and yellow anyways and would feel right at home here. Really like the upholstery on the chairs. And the columns on either side of the window (reminds me of MGM) and the greenery outside with the white post and white statue. The glimpse of the chandelier adds a regal touch.

    Thanks, Martin.

I’m reading a biography of Mr Cukor that I got online for $5 and it’s rocking my world! I grew up in Los Angeles in the ‘50s and early ‘60s so I remember the last vestiges of old Hollywood. This house is utterly amazing. Mr Cukor bought the house and six acres just off Sunset Boulevard in the early 1930s for $10,000. I’m getting a contact high just looking at the photographs of which there are very few online. Thank you very much for posting the only photo of the famed oval lounge. What I wouldn’t give to spend one hour in that sumptuous room.
