Los Angeles’ Union Station turned 75 this month (May 2014) so a number of old photos of it have been surfacing. I thought this one was particularly interesting. It was taken in 1943—the middle of WWII—and shows a . . . I’m not even sure what to call it, a display? installation? of hundreds of model aircraft strung up along the ceiling of the station. It must have been quite striking.
And one has to wonder where all of those model planes ended up. The trash? Home with employees for their sons?
I hope it’s at least the latter, Matarete, but fear it’s the former!
