The Town House Hotel near the eastern end of Wilshire Boulevard was built in 1929 and became a popular hotel. Equally popular and well-known was its Zebra Room restaurant. But until I came across this photo, I’d never heard of the other restaurant there, called the Cape Cod Room. In this photo, it looks like some sort of women’s club just got out. They’re all dressed up in their hats so you know it was a respectable group, whatever it was.
Conrad Hilton bought the Town House in 1942 so when Elizabeth Taylor married his son Nicky in 1950, they celebrated at the hotel in 1950. It was sold to Sheraton in 1954 and became the Sheraton-Town House.
