“Live at the Garden of Allah – 8152 Sunset Blvd” advertisement, July 10th, 1930

"Live at the Garden of Allah" advertisement, July 10th, 1930After Alla Nazimova opened the Garden of Allah Hotel, then went bankrupt over it and was forced to sell her share, the hotel went through a couple of management changes, and had a bit of a relaunch. This ad is from July 10th, 1930. It reads:

Truly the one place in all Southern California where you’ll enjoy life the most. Gorgeous, breath-taking beauty in the garden . . . superb appointments in the apartments and villas . . . such cuisine as nowhere else in California. Swimming pool . . . tennis courts . . . close to Hollywood and its famous theaters . . . midway between downtown and the beaches . . . in short, a perfect gem of gracious living, in a perfect setting of purple mountains and azure air. Individual villas $250 per month, up.

Sounds like a great place to live, if you ask me!

Using an online inflation calculator, renting a bungalow would be the equivalent of $3,400.00 today. Is that about correct? I was so thinking I could take my current salary and live there quite comfortably, but alas, no!
