This photo from 1924 shows us the Hillview Apartments at 6533 Hollywood Blvd. They were built in 1917 by Jesse L. Lasky, co-founder of Paramount and his brother-in-law, Sam Goldwyn. It was the first apartment building to allow those lowest-of-the-lows: moving picture actors to live in Hollywood. According to Wikipedia, residents included Clara Bow, Mae Busch, and Stan Laurel. I’ve also heard that the building’s basement housed a rehearsal space until Rudolph Valentino converted it to a speakeasy. This building is still standing, and has been completely renovated, and is now known as the Hudson Apartments.
