Most night shots of Los Angeles evoke a noir-ish feel, but it’s those with roads gleaming with rain that really make me think of wrinkled gumshoes and hard-bitten dames. This shot of Vine Street looking north was taken in 1939. We can see The Tropics bar, the Hollywood Recreation Center bowling alley (love the neon sign!), the Broadway department store, and the Brown Derby restaurant.
