The upscale department store, I. Magnin, has several incarnations in Los Angeles. It’s probably best known for its larger store on Wilshire Boulevard and perhaps it’s smaller one in Beverly Hills (1942 to 1947) but it had its beginnings on Hollywood Boulevard. This store stood at 6340 Hollywood Blvd on the Ivar Street corner in the late 1920s (this photo was taken 1928) I wonder if those cars parked out front have chauffeurs waiting patiently for the lady of the house to complete her purchases. In searching the online LA City Directories (early versions of the telephone books before people had telephones) I found there was also an I. Magnin at the Ambassador Hotel.)

Magnin’s was my very favorite store – the one on Wilshire in B.H.
It was very close to Saks, which I didn’t much like.
