The Los Angeles Theater on Broadway in downtown Los Angeles opened in January 1931 with the premiere of Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights. Said to have been modeled after the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles, it features a crystal fountain at the head of a grand staircase, a restaurant and a ballroom. It was the jewel in the crown of L.A. theaters at a time when movie houses were built to be palaces. I recently saw a live production (a stage musical version of “Carrie”) and took some photos of the interior, which I thought I’d share here.
Martin, your stunning pictures took me back years to a time even before I was born. Love the lighting. Thank you so much for sharing! Jean
