This is a shot of Hollywood High School along Sunset Boulevard was taken some time in the 1950s. When I saw it, my first thought was, “Those palm trees don’t look familiar—I can’t believe they took them out!” It wasn’t until I jumped into Google maps that I saw—like, DUH!—they were still there, but I was used to them being so tall and thin!
I had a life-changing moment there: I was driving along Sunset when Hollywood High had just let out for the day, and I felt this tremendous kinship with the students.
That was when I began teaching ice skating to pre-teens and teen-agers – and continued to do so for the next 30 years. Thanks for posting this. Love.
