In this 1922 photo three men are discussing a road project that would eventually become Santa Monica Boulevard. The sign in the background says “Westwood” so I assume where they’re standing is approximately where Santa Monica Blvd meets the San Diego freeway. Maybe the pointing guy is saying, “The spot right there is where Santa Monica and the 405 will create a nightmare bottleneck every morning and every afternoon.” But the other sign has me intrigued. I can’t imagine they’re charged with building only 50 feet of road, so I guess the fact that their road is 50 feet wide is sign-worthy…?
