We often see pictures of Schwab’s Pharmacy on Sunset Boulevard (around the corner from the Garden of Allah Hotel) but it’s rare that the photographer thought to pull back and show the Crescent Heights Market next door. This photo was taken August 11,1949 as Schwab’s was getting a new neighbor: Googie’s coffee shop. I wonder if the people building Googie’s knew they were giving rise who a whole new style of architecture named for their diner.
Isn’t it strange how a little hole in the wall (like Schwab’s ) became world famous? I wonder if people were sadly disappointed to see the reality? What do you think?Love, Blue & Lou
