Here’s a bit of an LA mystery. Here we have a very early photo of the Beverly Hills Hotel, apparently from 1912, which is the year it opened. It’s interesting to see the venerated place with its lush gardens still so young and bare. But what stumps me is that streetcar rattling along out front. Since when did Sunset have a streetcar line?
Hi Martin – Here’s a link with a lot of info and pics of the old streetcar lines in Hollywood. Looks like there is a small stretch of Sunset Blvd. where the cars ran.
Loop connected to Santa Monica line. Did not last long. PE never ran on the western parts of Sunset besides this little oddball section and only crossed the roadway at points on Western Ave. and cutting down to Sherman.

Here’s another pic of the BH Hotel with its own streetcar station with Sunset Blvd. in the foreground:

And another pic, much later in time, with a couple of horseback riders passing the old streetcar station there on Sunset Blvd. in front of the hotel:

Pretty interesting, huh?
