Aerial view of Griffith Observatory and vicinity, 1936One of Los Angeles’ most visibly prominent and enduring (meaning: it didn’t get torn down to build condos, and rarely gets blown up in disaster movies) is the Griffith Observatory. This shot was taken in 1936, so the observatory was only 3 years old. We can see that the Los Feliz area below it and Hollywood beyond that is still being developed—there aren’t any large buildings in view. Don’t worry, Angelenos, there’ll be time enough for that…
