Rodeo Drive bridle path, Beverly Hills, circa 1925

Rodeo Drive bridle path, Beverly Hills, circa 1925This photo sheds light on a snippet of LA history I never knew about until this morning. Here we see a bridle path along Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, which ran between Sunset Blvd and Santa Monica Blvd. Originally it was a streetcar line, which opened in 1907 but was closed by 1923. It then became a bridle path for the well-heeled residents of the burgeoning Beverly Hills development, and stayed that way until the late 1930s. It was then narrowed to and planted with decorative shrubbery planted, which is why Rodeo Dr remains the only north-south street in Beverly Hills between Santa Monica and Sunset Boulevards with a center divider. This shot is circa 1925.
