Angelinos may have blithely torn down much of their rich architectural history, but we still have the Bullocks Wilshire department store building on Wilshire Blvd. This photo was taken from the Virgil Ave corner in 1929, the year the store opened. It’s amazing it’s still around considering it opened a month before the stock market crash. But from this picture, we can see how more sedate Wilshire was back then—mostly large homes with spacious lawns. If you’d like to see the interior of the Bullocks Wilshire building, check out my Facebook album: http://bit.ly/BWfbalbum
Dear Martin: you are publishing my all-time favorite places in Los Angeles and Bullock’s Wilshire is certainly one of them. Between 1956 and 1963 we lived very near the store and that was where I shopped (when I could afford it). Great memories. Love always, Lou.

Sure love these trips down the Golden Age of Hollywood’s memory lane. Makes me feel connected with my favorite time period!
Thanks, Martin.
