Mayor Fletcher Bowron and his wife drive past the Pantages Theater, Hollywood Blvd, 1949

Mayor Fletcher Bowron and his wife drive past the Pantages Theater, Hollywood Blvd, 1949Fletcher Bowron was the mayor of Los Angeles from 1938 to 1953. I guess he’s in some parade down Hollywood Boulevard (probably the Christmas parade?) but to me, that’s the least interesting part of this photo. Check out that car! Those two-toned tires! And “All the King’s Men” (1949) playing at the Pantages. And equally amazing is the fact that the Frolic Room bar is still there!

According to the link below, which is shot from the other side of the car, it’s the Santa Claus Christmas parade, but this link states it’s 1948. You can see a little bit of the Christmas tree in the upper left of Martin’s pic.

And boy, how ’bout that car is right! I envision it being ruby red. Bet it rode like a dream.

    Thanks, Martin.
