I feel like I want to caption this one, “Yes, Virginia, there were traffic jams in Los Angeles in 1951.” In this shot, we’re looking at a not-so-great day for motorists taking the Silver Lake Boulevard exit off the Hollywood freeway (the 101) in 1951. Not a great day for them, but what a wonderful parade of post-war American automobiles for us. I think I’ll take the dark one in the right hand lane, behind the pole, thanks. I wonder if it came in fire-engine red?
And to this day the 101 freeway is completely jammed with cars for absolutely no reason. At the 110 It clears up. Absolutely ridiculous.
