The premiere of “Citizen Kane” took place at the El Capitan Theater opposite Grauman’s, and yet this photo of the movie shows a splashy opening at the Hawaii Theatre, which was much farther east along Hollywood Boulevard near the Florentine Gardens nightclub. Perhaps this was where Orson Welles’ infamous movie played during its initial Los Angeles run and they opened it with as much fanfare as they could. (Note the “30 cents to 1pm” sign out front!)
