Is it any wonder we happily suspended our disbelief when the old Hollywood movie studios took such care to recreate landscapes on their back lot. This a 1934 photo of “New York Street” at Paramount. If you took away those key lights on top of the buildings, it could almost BE New York. Well, except for the fact that you’d never find a real New York street that empty, not even in 1934, I’d imagine.
