Back in the days when architectural detail was prized over sleekness, Los Angeles really knew how to build a gorgeous apartment block. This is the La Belle Tour Apartments at 6200 Franklin Ave shortly after it opened in 1929. It’s still around—it narrowly escaped the 101 Hollywood Freeway, which now runs right past it—and has recently been renovated. Today, it is known as Hollywood Tower.

Oh, my, does this take us back to the Golden Age of Hollywood or what?! Just love seeing pics like this. I want a room right now at the beautiful La Belle Tour apartments back in ’29!
Martin, where’s that travel machine – I want a front seat right back to the wonderful days of old Hollywood to all our beloved stars and all the buildings and restaurants and sites that are now gone, but so dear and close in our hearts where they live forever!
Thanks, Martin.
