Wilshire Blvd looking east toward Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, 1944
This is Wilshire Blvd looking east from a couple of blocks west of Rodeo Drive in 1944. You can see the Brown Derby restaurant sign outlined on the left hand side of the street. I wonder if those people whose … Continue reading
Beverly Hills Hotel entrance, circa 1940s
This is the entrance to the Beverly Hills Hotel as it looked in the 1940s. The foliage is now thicker and more lush, and the building is now a pale pink, but the entrance looks remarkably unchanged since then.

I didn’t know that the Lawry’s restaurants went back as far as the 1930s until I found this photo of Lawry’s The Prime Rib at 100 N. La Cienega Boulevard, Beverly Hills. This photo was dated 1938—the year it opened—and … Continue reading

Beverly Hills street, circa 1926
I don’t know which street, but this is Beverly Hills, circa 1926. What amazes me is that there are no front fences at all. I can’t imagine that street still looks like this anymore.
