I missed the whole dinner-at-a-drive-in thing by about 20 years, but if I’d been around, chances are you’d have found me at a place like this. This is Van De Kamp’s Bakery and Coffee Shop, which stood at the corner of Fletcher Drive and San Fernando Road in Atwater Village (about 5 miles north of downtown L.A.) It must have been quite an eyeful when lit up at night. This photo is circa 1956, when America was in full “Happy Days” mode.
